Just putting this here in case you didn’t subscribe to the YouTube channel, there WILL be a Wrap-Up update this year:
More toy sprites, some unfinished business (including a Double Dragon character I didn’t have time to sprite for the 2/22/2022 update), a ToyBoss section update, and more! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Unholidays, and I hope you’re able to stay warm!
I’ve been working on some pixel art commissions this month, so there isn’t much new, though I quietly threw a few new things into the image generators through the month. I’ll explain later.
Mini-logos: SNK the King of Fighters ’94 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves
minilogo_index.php?g=snk
GFX Generators:
– characters: Rock Howard, Benimaru Nikaido, Chang Koehan(KoF), Choi Bounge (KoF), Goro Daimon, Hibiki Takane (the Last Blade), all in CvS-series form. Really, they’ve been in there for most of this month, quietly added over time after a frequent commenter pointed out they were missing.
– Boxes, Flyer & Posters 160×192: I added some alternate character layouts, but no thumbnail previews for them because I’m still tweaking them. If people like how these work, I’ll add them where I can (unfortunately certain Group and Vs. screenstyles backgrounds would make it VERY tricky there).
ToyBoss: Added a few more game roster shots, including incomplete rosters of the heroes and villains from Konami’s X-Men and a complete group of boss villains from Sega’s Spider-Man the Video Game arcade beat ’em up.
I’ve got all the Marvel Legends build-a-figure parts for Bone Breaker of the Reavers (seen in Konami’s X-Men as a drone enemy and Capcom’s The Punisher as a boss), so new pics of them are in the update. The newest arrival, just a few days ago, was that new repaint of the early 90’s Iron Man that comes packed with the Proton Cannon made legendary by Capcom’s fighting games. I’ve added pics including them along this shot of that Iron Man with the Funko Mega Man figure:

Happy, Happy Hall-o-ween, Hall-o-ween, Hall-o-ween!
Happy, Happy Hall-o-ween, Sil-ver-Sham-rock!

Custom Sprites:
– Horror
– – Halloween III: trick-or-treaters with Silver Shamrock masks
– – Texas Chainsaw: all-new Leatherface from TCSM 1, Chop Top
– – other: all-new Candyman sprite
– Raven’s Dojo: LOOOONG OVERDUE! The gallery starts with a brand-new Gore Orb sprite based on the brick-breaking character from Raven’s Terror Cube game. Also added are the Dojo comic stars Rodney and Dornail I made to help spread the word about Raven’s comic book Kickstarter from 2012. No, that “long overdue” part was NOT hyperbole. I’ll be reshading these in the future.

Here’s the DangerTerrorHorrorThon 2022 video:
The West Mansion Splatterhouse site has been adding lots of new things recently, but the crown jewel of additions has just dropped an interview Dire conducted with Takashi Oda, the lead character designer of the original Splatterhouse game! He did more than just create Rick and the cast, as he’s also a practical effects designer on a slew of legendary Japanese movies like Tetsuo 2:Body Hammer and Hiruko the Goblin. Dire’s interview with Takashi Oda can be found here.
This stab at the horrorthon is ALL GAME, with a few do-overs some long overdue additions, and a surprise monster from a sequel.

Custom Sprites:
– Altered Beast: humanoid non-powered-up player 1 & 2
– Castlevania: all-new Carmilla (Rondo of Blood) and Succubus (Symphony of the Night)
– Splatterhouse: Rick Taylor in the Splatterhouse 2 mask and all-new Screaming Mimi from Splatterhouse 2
All new items added to the Image Generators, where you can make screenshots like the one at the top of this post!
Arcade Quartermaster update by adding the Playchoice-10 edition of Castlevania to the shrines! The site has also been adding background music to many of the earlier shrines, so now is a good time to revisit a few and hear what jumps out at you.
TheWolfBunny’s Super Mario Bros. NES font got a MASSIVE update with more letter and symbol characters, easily making it one of the most comprehensive 8-bit-style fonts you can find today. And it’s STILL FREE!
Stay tuned, there’s still more DangerTerrorHorrorThon waiting to find you!

Custom Sprites:
– DC Comics: all-new Scarecrow (classic)
– Horror:Evil Dead Ash Williams standing sprite updated (colors like the Horror vs. Horror 2 print, lots of other detail adjustments) and Phantasm’s Reggie (new versions in Ice Cream Man outfit with vest)
– Ninja Gaiden: arcade hockey mask enemy (completely redone for hopefully the last time)
– Streets of Rage: Zamza
mini-logos:
– movies: Stephen King, WNUF Halloween Special
All new items added to the Image Generators, where you can make screenshots like the one at the top of this post!
Raven Perez, creatively inspirational friend of the site, has a new horror-flavored game starring his classic crew of the Dojo! Terror Cube is a block-breaking game that has the Dojo teaming up with the Gore Orb to ball-bust some bricks, and anyone who knows how Raven gets down knows it’s gonna get WEIRD (in the best way). It’s a fun game, perfect for this time of year, and a treat to see crisp 8-bit-ish pixel art in his drawing style. Warning: Raven’s Dojo is not safe for work but safe for awesome. Get Terror Cube at this link!
The DangerTerrorHorrorThon continues with another update this Sunday, so stay tuned!
If you look at that new Batman sprite compared to the older scratch-made sprites I’ve done, you may notice that he doesn’t match 100%, mainly the cowl. Call it an experiment to try and make better Batman sprites. If it works, I’ll probably start modifying the older sprites to match probably next year.
I’m still on “break” but I had to add a little something to the site to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Capcom’s Street Fighter series:

edit 2022 August 31st: HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!

I’m getting ready to work on some paid projects, but I also made some progress on the Guy vs. Mad Gear video.

Just a small update to recognize the year that pretty much led to the creation of this site, revolutionized the beat ’em up, and just generally kicked all kinds of behind: 1989.

Custom Sprites:
– Ninja Gaiden: Ryu Hayabusa – redone NES fight stance, in-game NES sprite and cover art outfit variants
– TMNT: April O’Neil – redone calm standing pose + fixes to Shredder’s Revenge fight stance
GFX Generators:
– Main Generator: The “1989 arcade” background has been remodeled with new walls, a change to the neon, new carpet and improved arcade machine sprites.

I’m taking a “break” from the site for a few different reasons, including trying to finally finish that Guy vs. Mad Gear fight video that I started years ago. Really, I’ve been working on it on the side for a long time, including more animations for the Mad Gear members, respriting the sunglasses-wearing woman based on the Final Fight bezel art, and remaking a location I made up for a MUGEN stage long ago. You can see a bit of that in the HalfTime video I posted back in June, and it’s in there because I’m aiming to finally get that fight done.
To tell the truth, I really need a bit of rest, and I never really do whenever I take a break from the site, but maybe I’ll try it for real this time. But I’ve got a lot of big things I want to do for this site, and it’d probably help to recharge before I try some of these possibly insane ideas.
There will still be some site updates and fixes, there just won’t be a lot of new pixel art from me added for a while until further notice, except for late October (because the HorrorThon must go on).
Today this site celebrates 22 years of platformer appreciation, beat ’em up boosting, pixel art positivity and more!

Custom Sprites:
– Adventure Island: Master Higgins
– Battle Circuit: Pink Ostrich
– Mega Man: Fire Man
– Karate Champ: Judge
– Street Fighter: Cammy – Super Street Fighter II fight stance
– Marvel: six of the suit-wearing thugs from Capcom’s Punisher arcade game
– Illmosis Network: Upski Daisy (Beans vs. Cornbread)
– Kirby: King Dedede
Sprites:
– the Punisher: added Jigsaw and Hawke. Just checked the file properties and it looks like I had some of those sprites ready in 2009 and forgot to add them to the gallery.
As usual, all these new things have been added to the main Image Generator, where you can make (and right-click save) your own images like the one at the top of this news post!
ToyBoss: photos of the amazing Storm Collectables Tyris Flare have been added. I’m still in a bit of shock that official Golden Axe figures are even being made, but even more shocked that I have Tyris. If the Gilius Thunderhead is still available when I get my money back up again, I’ll get him, too. I bought mine at BigBadToyStore, but Entertainment Earth has them, too.
BTW: just in case you haven’t heard, Jada Toys recently teased new lines of Street Fighter and classic Mega Man action figures, and samples will be shown at San Diego Comic Con. No news about the scale of these figures yet, but I’m hoping they’ll be in 1:12 scale to fit in with Marvel Legends and G.I.JOE Classified. Funko made a nice Mega Man and fully on-model and poseable Dr. Wily a few years ago and I hope the new figures fit that same scale, too.
