Today this site celebrates 22 years of platformer appreciation, beat ’em up boosting, pixel art positivity and more!

Custom Sprites:
Adventure Island: Master Higgins
Battle Circuit: Pink Ostrich
Mega Man: Fire Man
Karate Champ: Judge
Street Fighter: Cammy – Super Street Fighter II fight stance
Marvel: six of the suit-wearing thugs from Capcom’s Punisher arcade game
Illmosis Network: Upski Daisy (Beans vs. Cornbread)
Kirby: King Dedede

Sprites:
the Punisher: added Jigsaw and Hawke. Just checked the file properties and it looks like I had some of those sprites ready in 2009 and forgot to add them to the gallery.

As usual, all these new things have been added to the main Image Generator, where you can make (and right-click save) your own images like the one at the top of this news post!

ToyBoss: photos of the amazing Storm Collectables Tyris Flare have been added. I’m still in a bit of shock that official Golden Axe figures are even being made, but even more shocked that I have Tyris. If the Gilius Thunderhead is still available when I get my money back up again, I’ll get him, too. I bought mine at BigBadToyStore, but Entertainment Earth has them, too.

BTW: just in case you haven’t heard, Jada Toys recently teased new lines of Street Fighter and classic Mega Man action figures, and samples will be shown at San Diego Comic Con. No news about the scale of these figures yet, but I’m hoping they’ll be in 1:12 scale to fit in with Marvel Legends and G.I.JOE Classified. Funko made a nice Mega Man and fully on-model and poseable Dr. Wily a few years ago and I hope the new figures fit that same scale, too.

Custom Sprites
Battle Circuit: Yellow Iris/Yellow Beast
Castlevania: Werewolf/Wolfman
Metamorphic Force: Ban
Night Slashers: Werewolves
Data East: Werewolf: the Last Warrior

Mini-logos: Werewolf: the Last Warrior added to Data East gallery.

Previous DTHT 2019 updates
pt.1 Death Lives

All newness added to the main GFX Generators, where you can make pics like the top of this post!

The weirdness continues tomorrow!

The first update of 2019 has a lot of “finally” like Cece Peniston as I revive a long-dead site section and add fan sprites based on two of the best mid-nineties Beat ‘Em Ups!

Reviews: dormant for a decade, I recoded and redesigned the reviews section (not the index) and modified just about every full review. They’re probably still full of sleep deprivation-induced grammatical errors, but I fixed a lot of the things that annoyed me whenever I saw the pages again. A few reviews were at least 50% rewritten. I’ll probably modify them even more, partially because the thinner page width makes the layout weird. Will I make new reviews later? **shrugs** This is still a work in progress, and the index page won’t look like the old ugly one once everything is done. For now, the Reviews are part of the Info Center area of the site.

Game Index: fixed as many of the review links as I could find and added Denjin Makai II/Guardians. BTW: the page has a list of the alternate ENG language select screen name graphics found in the OBJ TEST. Does anyone know if they appear in any variant of the game?

Sprites: new Denjin Makai II/Guardians page, including uncropped portraits.

Custom Sprites: The Battle Circuit gallery starts with Cyber Blue and the Denjin Makai gallery opens with Makai and Guardians-uniform Kurokishi. BTW: just in case you’ve never seen them, you should check out 2Dwillneverdie to see the Battle Circuit sprites Kiwi made long ago. Masterpieces, one and all.

Mini-logos: Banpresto, Denjin Makai and Denjin Makai II added to new Banpresto gallery.

The new pixel art has been added to the main image generator, as usual!

The “Horror vs. Horror 2” pixel art print is finally done and available for order!

The 17 x 11 inch print has been added to the shop page, along with the Iron Man (90s/Capcom sprite armor) pic I did earlier this year. There’s a list of character select cameos on my Illmosis art site, just so you can see how weird it gets!

There’s been a ton of beat ’em up news this entire year and I’ve been trying to build a big update themed around this site’s favorite genre. But the hits just keep coming! Between the last site update and this one, the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle (a.k.a. Capcom Belt Action Collection) was both announced and released (not for PC yet) and Sega shocked the world by declaring the return of the Streets of Rage series with part 4. I’m still building a beat ’em update, but here’s a few things to get things rolling before then:

Sprites: Double Dragon (some Double Dragon Advance)

Mini-logos: Battle Circuit added to Capcom gallery.

Vernacula-X: The main page gets another upgrade (finally, proper separate pages for each letter), all terms now have full pages, a few have been rewritten, and a few new terms (character level, crowd control, drone, gamer, mega crash) have been added.

Game Index additions: Battle Circuit, Knights of the Round, Ninja Combat

That’s all the site newness I’ve got for today, but here’s a few previews of some sprites you’ll see in the upcoming Beat ‘Em Update:

Fight’N Rage, one of the best recent arcade-style beat ’em ups to hit the pixelated streets, is having a half price sale until September 24th in honor of its first anniversary (September 19th)! The game is high quality and a steal at that price!
