ToyBoss: Lots of new photos, including the recent new thangs (♫ new thangs, new thangs ♫) of Gamerverse Psylocke and the Jada Toys SDCC Neo-Metall 6-pack, along with some roster pic additions (the Punisher, finally) and updates (Capcom’s MSH).

Adding to that, I’ve started the first step of recoding this section, adding a gallery feature that splits off some of the sections into their own thing. Some of these have new pics not found in the “Latest” section, so look around if you have the time. There are some older pictures I didn’t add before now because they weren’t game-related enough and I didn’t want to crowd out the video game characters here. I even added a few shots I took of those background rocks I made when I was working on them in 2023.

I say it’s the first step because I’ve also been slowly working on a rewrite of the custom sprite and sprite gallery systems, and the next upgrade of the Toyboss section will be based on that rewrite. It’s been a side project, so it’s going to be a long while before it’s ready. Nowhere near as big as the recent Spriters Resource update, but it’ll let me do a few new things.

Custom Sprites:
G.I.JOE: Stalker gets a new pose and an update of his 2017 sprite to match the new pose. The new pose uses the same standing body as the sprite’s in June’s update, but with a new rifle-holding right arm. There might be even more changes later as I keep redoing G.I.JOE sprites (especially the males in the Original 13 squad) using this base body and changing other to match it.
Princess of Power: I made some adjustments to the She-Ra sprite, but don’t be surprised if I make more adjustments later.

The new customs sprites were added to the main image generator. Also added to that are:
– End – Marvel vs. Capcom 384×224: new option to use the G.I.JOE Konami arcade font.

I’ve also been working on sprites and animations for different clips, especially this one. There may be a new multi-topic video on the YouTube channel in September, depending on how things go.

This is perfectly on topic, because I’m still in shock at this announcement. Here’s the video for those of you who don’t know yet:

Not only does this look amazing, it looks like it has solid game play, too. A Masters of the Universe beat ’em up with hints of Golden Axe in the play style is pretty much a dream game for me, so I’m already hype about it! The Steam page for it is already up, so you can put it on your wishlist.

edit:
The pre-September Arcade Quartermaster update is brought to you by the letter R and the company Sega! The new shrines are the Westone/Sega beat ’em up Riot City and a Sega rail shooter that takes the genre’s name literally, Rail Chase

Also adding this trailer for the upcoming brawler, Pizza Kidd!

We’re in the eight month, and in its ninth day, and that means it’s time for The Revenge of 1989! It’s time for some new pixel art, including a couple of sprites in the style of Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (1989) (later localized as River City Ransom)!

Custom Sprites – New:
Bonk/PC Genjin: Bonk (and his gallery) debuts and gets two sprites
Ninja Gaiden: Irene Lew fans have it good today, she gets THREE new sprites, replacing all those 2014 sprites and even that action-y Capcom edit.
Mega Man: Returning Sniper Joe from Mega Man 2, and of course I’ve got the regular Sniper Joe palette version, too.
Marvel Comics: a sprite of Storm in her Pryde of the X-Men outfit. A different version of this pose was in her Sprite Showcase.
sprite style: Kunio-kun/River City Ransom: Golden Axe’s Tyris Flare and Revenge of Shinobi’s Joe Musashi

Custom Sprites – updated:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Modified the sprites of the 4 turtles with their weapons on their belts, including putting the ties on the belt.

Mini-logos: Hudson gallery gets a PC Genjin logo.

GFX Generators: The new custom sprites and mini-logos were added to the appropriate Fight-scale generator and 8-bit Fake Screenshot generators. Also, the Marvel vs Capcom ending (in the Fight-scale and MvC1 generators): simple overlay styles for Golden Axe (arcade), River City Ransom, and TMNT arcade added.

There will be a ToyBoss section update in the last half of August, and I’ve got a lot of plastic to catch up on and roster photos to update there. There may even be an extra surprise or two. Here’s a few quick pics of some of my favorite toy newness: the Jada Toys SDCC Neo Metall 6-pack and the Marvel Legends Psylocke-Thanos two-pack!
