Time to bring some of that ILLVEMBER work to my original pixel art home, ScrollBoss.

Custom Sprites
– Illmosis: new sprites of my characters The Entity and Ace of Clubs. But Nutroll also debuted a new mask design on Illmosis.net this week, and he also has a few new poses and I’ve updated many of his old sprites with the new mask.
– SFA3/SFZ3 Vs. Portraits: Nutroll

Here’s a quick pixel animation video I made of Nutroll finally getting his mask together.

– Ninja Gaiden: While updating the gallery pages on the Illmosis site, I got the itch to make a version of Ryu that looks more like the in-game/cutscene design.

The new sprites were added to the GFX Generator, where you can make pictures like the one at the top of this post.

Reaction has been surprisingly positive from people who are just seeing Nutroll for the first time during this Illvember event, so expect to see him pop up a lot more from now on. As you can tell from the video, he’s fun to animate! Thanks to everyone who commented about him in the places where I’ve posted that video (especially Instagram), you’ll see him get up to some trouble in 2026!

December is next, and that means it’s time for the Wrap-Up, but there’ll be another update next month that’s just as Final!

At the end of the 25th Anniversary update for ScrollBoss, there’s a sprite of my character Nutroll, in the same pose he was in for his new sprite in January. The difference is that his sign now had “11-11 ILLVEMBER” written on it. Today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month, so now it’s time to celebrate the first ever ILLVEMBER! That means two things. First, it’s time for my characters to get some long-overdue attention. That means everything from the Illmosis Network of sites is fair game. It also means ILLMOSIS, my art site that hasn’t had an update since 2020 (and the less I think about that year, the better) finally got an update today with new pixelart and a gallery page to show the ScrollBoss characters who debuted here. But I also have an update to put here, too!

Custom Sprites – Illmosis: A new sprite of my first superhero M-Wave and an almost-new sprite of Nutroll have been added. He’s moved the sign, but what happened to the rest of his mask? You’ll get an answer at the end of this month.

Mini-logos – Illmosis: New M-Wave logo added. Also the old Nutroll logo was added, I forgot to put it on that page over a decade ago.

The new sprites and mini-logo were added to the GFX Generator, where I made the pics at the top of this post.

There will be multiple Illvember updates on illmosis.net through the rest of the month, and at least one more update with that theme here as I add more new work of my characters. I’ll see if I can find a way to contribute to Karnovember this month.

First of all, if you remember this site from the old days, check out the index page for a flashback!

This update is a mix of all the things that this site is about, and there are several themes mixed throughout it. I finally complete a team, start a new team, add some overdue legends, and add new and needed poses to characters who already have sprites. Many characters who are favorites of mine and visitors of the site get all-new, redone, and/or update poses, including callbacks to sprite edits from the earliest days of the site. So whether this site is completely new to you or you’re a returning visitor, I hope you have fun with all of today’s newness!

Custom Sprites: There are no set themes except to be a mix of everything regular visitors know to expect. However, keep an eye out for remakes of some of the site’s earliest custom sprites, completed teams, and sprites that some of you requested.
Bionic Commando: Radd Spencer (NES design) MvC:3 stance sprite was resized and improved, and new NES idle stance and calm standing pose sprites were added.
Captain Commando: Baby Commando joins to complete the team… FINALLY! But now Scumocide is here, too.
Castlevania: completely redone Castlevania 1 and Rondo/SotN zombie sprites
Dark Seal: new gallery based on Data East’s series starts with Freya the Wizard.
Golden Axe: The Dragon Bizarrian mounts have been resized, Tyris Flare’s sprite riding them has been redrawn to match.
Rushing Beat: Kazan gets his sword up taunt from Brawl Brothers/Rushing Beat Ran.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Sonic
Tower of Druaga: the often-requested Gil and Ki get sprites based on different versions of the early Namco art.
DC Comics: Silver/Bronze Age Krypto gets two sitting sprites with different facial expressions and Captain Marvel gets a standing sprite.
Marvel Comics: the Thing (all-new idle/fight stance), Colossus (hands on hips)
G.I.JOE: Baroness with new sprite sprite on toy card artwork, adjustments to her fight stance and head raised glasses adjustment, plus a new glasses adjustment with her head down to replace the 2015 sprite that’s out of style now. Not trying to start any W.I.P. rumors with her, I just really wanted her sprites to match!

Speaking of G.I.JOE, watch this short clip carefully to see the new explosion animations I’ve been working on and a sprite that isn’t on this site yet:

RCR/Kunio-kun 8-bit: The Jason sprite that I added to the generators a while ago finally makes its way to the gallery, but I’ve also added an all-new sprite of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!
Illmosis Network: a brand-new ScrollBoss character makes her debut! Introducing… Jilly Biehn! She’s the now-grown daughter of vigilantes who often got their weapons from the Alexandria Mall back in the day and is often drawn to the beat ’em up arcade in that mall. Vonetta (a.k.a. Vernacula) gets an all-new fight stance sprite, including a version where she’s armed with a wooden stake. Look, what V does in her time off from the Info Section is her business, best not look into that too much.

Mini-logos:
Namco: Tower of Druaga
DC Comics: Krypto

Game Index: Dark Seal (a.k.a. Gate of Doom)

All new custom sprites and mini-logos added to the GFX Generator.

Last but not least, I wrote a little something about the 25th Anniversary in this article. Not just about what it means to me but what I hope this site does for you.

That’s the end of this update, but not the end of the 25th Anniversary celebration. Don’t worry, you’ll hear more about that next time. Thanks for showing up and I hope you enjoyed the update!

You know, it feels like something’s missing, though. Wait, I remember. I posted a sprite of my character Nutroll earlier this year, but he was being kinda… weird about it. Let’s see how he’s…

… 11-11? Man, I don’t even – – wait, what’s that at the bottom? *squints* Does that say… illvember?

Custom Sprites
Nintendo – Samus Aran, Donkey Kong Jr. and the Ice Climbers
Data East – Karnov (new pose in his original look)
Illmosis – Nutroll (new fight stance sprite)

Mini-logos
Data East: Trio the Punch
Nintendo: Ice Climbers

The new sprites and logos have been added to the new fighter scale GFX Generator. That generator also got the gold 16×16 font from Fighter’s History Dynamite/Karnov’s Revenge and the “Mego WGSH 176×192” got a new set of Data East portrait bubbles!

As a celebrator of Karnovember, it’s my duty to send you a link to the Karnovember Tumblr tag, because that’s where I first heard about it. I’ll be doing my part to add content to that tag soon.

recent stuff elsewhere:
Gaming Hell just added a page about Namco’s Numan Athletics and Mach Breakers, their super-powered sports games. There’s some really cool info in there, including a few things to prove that the games are linked!

Shadi dipped into the legendary Taito vault by adding shrines for Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble and Kuri Kinton to Arcade Quartermaster

There’s a reason why I managed to build an update so random that I couldn’t come up with a cohesive, goofy news post title. The plan was to drop a mini-update last Friday with Samus, the Ice Climbers and DK Jr. and build up to a full Karnovember update and an update with Illmosis characters (with Nutroll). That was until I was worn out by extra work at my day job, something that was going on for a while but really kicked into high gear last week. Combined with some sinus-related fun, I feel like I’ve been dropkicked down an elevator shaft and that includes pains in my drawing and spriting hand. Honestly, I probably need to rest for a little bit anyway, but this makes it obvious. I’ll be back in effect mode by early December, if not sooner. As Guru once said, “Peace out, we’ll be back, stay tuned.”
