Just a small update to recognize Karnovember!

Custom Sprites
Karnov: original Karnov in King of Fighters Neo Geo style
Bad Dudes: Iron (boss 2)

Both sprites were added to the main image generator, which also got a few more bug fixes throughout the month, like fixing the alternate palettes for user-selected fonts. All that coding work I had to months ago was rushed, so I apologize for the lingering issues that show up here and there.

We wrap things up in Decemember with new toy-related pixel art, including an update to the toy aisle background in the image generators!

Just a little something to observe the miracle that is Karnovember. One new (“BAL-LOOOOOON!”) and one old sprite that I didn’t post until now (classic Karnov fireball) have been added to the Custom Sprite gallery and the Image Generators!

Also, I uploaded the Karnovember logo I made this afternoon in a .ZIP, with a bigger transparent .PNG and the SVG vector file from Inkscape. It needs work, so feel free to improve/fix it before using it for your own stuff. Download it from this link!

The 2021 wrap-up is coming this December, stay tuned, especially if you like mutants!

Custom Sprites:
Karnov: the RoboCop Karnov
RCR/Kunio-Kun NES: Karnov (classic)

These sprites were added to the image generators along with Clown (sprited him a while ago, somehow forgot to add him to the generators) and 4 Fighter’s History Dynamite/Karnov’s Revenge stages: Marstrius, Ray, Ryoko and Zazzie.

LordBBH has the Karnovember Fighter’s History Dynamite Tournament 11/21/2020 video up in case you missed it last weekend. I got there kinda late (and dropped a $5 into the prize pot), but there was a lot of wild stuff to be seen. Watching the tourney also reminded me to get more of the game’s stages into the generator. Congrats to everyone involved for putting together a solid tourney!

(edit: sale prices changed)
‘Tis the season to put on sales, so this is a reminder that the print sale in the site’s shop is still going on!
8×10 (and similar size prints) are $4 each, buy 2 and get one free!
17×11 (and similar size prints) $8!
Buy some as a gift for loved ones, total strangers, enemies, or even yourself. I’m not here to judge!

Custom Sprites: Joe & Mac finally get fighter-sized custom sprites and their own gallery, but they’re not alone! It’s Karnovember, so the “Joe & Mac Returns” version of Karnov is there, too!

Mini-Logos: Guest pixel arist Sage Freehaven has sent more mini-logos to add! Since there’s now non-wrestling logos there, I made a main gallery for Sage Freehaven’s work and updated the original wrestling gallery. Also updated were:
Data East: Joe & Mac, Joe & Mac Returns
Compile: Compile’s logo

GFX Generators:
– added: Joe & Mac
– updated: Karnov, Sakura (MSH vs SF Sunburned palettes), Captain America (fixed/added U.S. Agent palettes)

In honor of today’s food comas, today’s small update shows appreciation for characters who serve up food and induce comas! Besides observing Karnovember, this update also gives thanks to Heavy Burger, the new top-down shooter that combines many of Data East’s greatest hits in a bizarre way that befits the company’s weird, wonderful legacy.

Custom Sprites:
Data East
Karate Champ (new separate gallery)
Karnov (new separate gallery)

All new sprites have been added to the main image generator, which also gained a new Karnov NES box overlay for the “Boxes, Flyer & Posters 160×192” screenstyle!

Also, all prints in the ScrollBoss shop and the main Illmosis site are on sale until November 27th! 8×10 and 8×11 prints are $4.00 each, 11 x 17/11 x 14 prints $8.00 each!

Cover artist extraordinaire Rusty Shackles is having a huge print sale, too, including some pics that will be retired after this, so get ’em while you can!

(added 2018/11/23)
Serpent Systems has free shipping for those 1/18th scale (3.75-4 inch figures like small G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Universe) diorama arcade machines and dio parts.

Karnovember is in full swing on Tumblr and Twitter! It’s time for this site to pay a little tribute to the legend that is Karnov and a few of his friends.

New customs sprites of Karnov, Zako Ninja, and Buki Ninja, and improved Kunoichi sprites have been added to the Bad Dudes gallery and the main GFX Generator.

Speaking of the Custom Sprite galleries, I did a lot of behind-the-scenes work to just about all of them and a few look a bit different. Metroid and Transformers now have their own galleries and other games will get their own pages in future updates. I’m working on something that will replace a lot of the coding on this site, but I’ll explain that once the first upgrade hits.

Stay tuned, there’ll be more small updates very soon!

Custom Sprites
Nintendo – Samus Aran, Donkey Kong Jr. and the Ice Climbers
Data East – Karnov (new pose in his original look)
Illmosis – Nutroll (new fight stance sprite)

Mini-logos
Data East: Trio the Punch
Nintendo: Ice Climbers

The new sprites and logos have been added to the new fighter scale GFX Generator. That generator also got the gold 16×16 font from Fighter’s History Dynamite/Karnov’s Revenge and the “Mego WGSH 176×192” got a new set of Data East portrait bubbles!

As a celebrator of Karnovember, it’s my duty to send you a link to the Karnovember Tumblr tag, because that’s where I first heard about it. I’ll be doing my part to add content to that tag soon.

recent stuff elsewhere:
Gaming Hell just added a page about Namco’s Numan Athletics and Mach Breakers, their super-powered sports games. There’s some really cool info in there, including a few things to prove that the games are linked!

Shadi dipped into the legendary Taito vault by adding shrines for Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble and Kuri Kinton to Arcade Quartermaster

There’s a reason why I managed to build an update so random that I couldn’t come up with a cohesive, goofy news post title. The plan was to drop a mini-update last Friday with Samus, the Ice Climbers and DK Jr. and build up to a full Karnovember update and an update with Illmosis characters (with Nutroll). That was until I was worn out by extra work at my day job, something that was going on for a while but really kicked into high gear last week. Combined with some sinus-related fun, I feel like I’ve been dropkicked down an elevator shaft and that includes pains in my drawing and spriting hand. Honestly, I probably need to rest for a little bit anyway, but this makes it obvious. I’ll be back in effect mode by early December, if not sooner. As Guru once said, “Peace out, we’ll be back, stay tuned.”

First, let’s wrap up November’s business.

I planned to make a bunch of sprites based on my own characters to celebrate the main Illmosis site’s anniversary month, but a lot of things got in the way. The biggest is that I wanted to redesign many of the characters I was going to sprite. Two of those characters made it through, though: Exponent and Hostyle. Along with a new sprite of Nutroll, they kick off the long overdue Illmosis character section in the Illmosis gallery. You’ll also see a lot of sprites that were only on the Illmosis site until now. The out-of-scale Endless Duck sprite from 2011 was finally added to the ScrollBoss section, too.

I’ve also made a new SFA3 portrait for Karnov to replace the old E.Honda-edited version to rep Karnovember a bit more.

Finally, the prints in the shop are on sale until this Sunday, November 6th. 8×10 and 8×11 prints are $4.50 each while the 11 x 17 prints $8.50 each. Anyone looking for a wider variety of prints should check the Illmosis site print page, because it goes beyond the video game theme of this site.

Cyber Week will continue with… actual cyborgs? Word! BUT WHO? Even more mysteriously, which characters will segue into another round of themed updates later this month? No one really cares, but stay tuned anyway!

Friends, it’s that time of year when we give thanks to someone who has brought so much joy into our lives and made us the people we are today. This man has given so much, but always asked for much more in return. So let’s celebrate gaming’s favorite fire-breathing, Tyrannosaurus Rex-beating strongman and master of cameos, Karnov! Be sure to check out the Karnovember on Tumblr to see more Karnov appreciation!

I’ve improved the “Karnov: Bad Dudes stance” I made last year and added outfits from Fighter’s History and his cameo in Street Hoops. These sprites have been added to the Data East gallery and GFX Generators. A Karnov’s Revenge-style Karnov logo and the Fighter’s History mini-logos have been added to the Data East mini-logo page.

edit: I don’t know why I kept referring to Street Hoop as Street Hoops, but I’ll clear that up in the other parts of the site once I get the chance.
