There was a Marvel vs. Capcom-themed update yesterday, but Heihachi crashed it at the end, forcing me to do this update with more sprites and some new portraits!

Custom Sprites:
Tekken (new gallery): Heihachi (two new sprites), Nina Williams, and King II
Marvel: Wolverine, Colossus, Cyclops

Portraits: SFA3vs portraits for Heihaichi and Wolverine

all new items were added to the main GFX Generator!

By the way, those all-new (but only Colossus is giant-sized) X-Men sprites come from a print that makes its debut today!

**cue funky Konami X-Men music**
This print is guaranteed to increase the mutant population of your wall, but not to ward off masters of magnet. You’ve gotta do that on your own! It’s available now from the ScrollBoss shop page!

Well, that’s it for this theme. I’m gonna go get some re – –

So… another update? Okay. Come back tomorrow if you want to see how ridiculous this crossover gets!

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite hits consoles and computers today, so I figured I’d pay tribute to the whole series, seeing as how the original game is one of the main things to get me into spriting fighting-scale sprites. This update features remakes of characters from the entire series!

Custom Sprites
Marvel: Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, War Machine, Hawkeye, and Deadpool
Capcom: Morrigan, Meichelle Heart
Mega Man: X (Mega Man X)

Mini-logos:
Capcom: Mega Man X, Rockman X

All new sprites and logos have been added to the main GFX Generator!

Well, that wraps up this crossover. I hope you enjo- –

Hey, what the he – –

… looks like there’s going to be an update tomorrow, too. But is that THAT the only interloper we’re going to see tomorrow?

Today would’ve been the 100th birthday of the late, great King of Comics, Jack Kirby, and this update is filled with characters that he co-created (alongside Joe Simon or Stan Lee) or created himself. I’ve based sprites on his poses over the years because he was able to breathe a fully dynamic sense of life into his characters that they almost seemed to move on the page. In a Jack Kirby comic, every run was a breakneck dash, every punch was a haymaker and even the taunts seemed dangerous. He turned every attribute up to ten (or beyond) in the same way that fighting game sprite artists did years later. We comic fans owe him a lot and this update is in his honor. With this being the 100th birthday, I felt that I had to do more than usual, so I hope you enjoy this tribute to his work.

Custom Sprites
Marvel: Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, the Thing, Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp (new outfits & fixes for the 2016 sprite), the Silver Surfer, Medusa, M.O.D.O.K.
DC: Orion, Big Barda, Darkseid, Granny Goodness

All these sprites, along with some new mini-logos, have been added to the main GFX image Generator, where I made the fake screenshots at the top of this post. I also completely remade all the Marvel face portraits for the Mego card tribute in the main image generator, even the characters who already had Capcom sprites.

edit: after a bit of rest, I’ve added the mini-logos to their galleries. Marvel gets Ant-Man, Medusa, MODOK and two for the Silver Surfer. DC gets Big Barda, Granny Goodness, Orion, and OMAC.

How do you follow up an update with a theme? Have an update with no theme at all!

Custom sprites
Golden Axe: new fight stance sprites for Ax Battler and Gilius
Games (Other): Lara Croft
DC Comics: Beast Boy
Marvel Comics: the Vision
Masters of the Universe (new separate gallery!): He-Man in his “I have the power pose”

All of those sprites have been added to the GFX Generators, where you can make a graphics like the one at the top of this post.

Also, the person who commissioned me to make some sprites that’d fit in with Konami’s TMNT arcade style gave me permission to add those sprites to the TMNT gallery. If you’re a fan of the 80s toyline and cartoon, I hope you’ll like those surprises.

A small wrap-up update drops tomorrow!

A new sprite of Star-Lord (in his Annihilators-era uniform and snazzy helmet) has been added to the Marvel Comics sprite gallery. Star-Lord (again, Annihilators-era) and Guardians of the Galaxy both get a mini-logo added to the Marvel gallery. The sprite and logos have been added to the GFX Generators!

I’ll have a small set-up at All American Comics in Warren, OH (check ’em out on Facebook and Yelp) this Saturday for the Free Comic Book Day event. I’ll have some prints (not everything, still need to restock) with me and they’ll be at the sale prices I’m using on the site now, so you won’t even have to pay shipping if you can make it there. All American is a great shop that I’ve bought from for decades now, so check ’em out if you can make it to the NE Ohio area!

I’m still working on those pixel art commissions, with 9/16 of one batch done, 2/10 of another done and another single sprite to do, so the content train will be kinda light for a while. Sorry for the low content, but this site will be more active again probably around late May. Don’t worry, more new sprites (and more) are coming!

Meanwhile, I’ve also got a new pic on the main Illmosis site!

No theme, just pixels!

Custom Sprites
Final Fight: Cody’s 2016 sprites have been improved and I’ve made a sprite in the classic arcade flyer art pose
Nintendo: Lady (Donkey Kong), mostly based on Yoichi Kotabe’s artwork
Golden Axe: Lt., Col. and Gen. Bitter
Capcom: Rouge (Power Stone)
Marvel Comics: Moon Knight (classic outfit)
River City Ransom: NES-style sprites of Egg Shen (Big Trouble in Little China)

Mini-logos: Power Stone added to Capcom page

All new items have been added to the GFX Generators, which you can use to make graphics like the one at the top of this post!

Just in case you missed the post from earlier this week, sale prices are back for line art and pixel art prints, and commissions are back on, too!

The Mega Man NES Boss Intro and Boss select screens now work in the new GFX Generator engine, and the Fakeshot (8-bit) generator has been update to use the v.2 versions, including the Shops from the separate River City Ransom Shop generator that was upgraded last week. New Mega Man-stype edits: Hawkwoman/Hawkgirl (DC Comics), Dr. Octopus (Marvel Comics), Doctor Emmitt Brown (Back to the Future) and Doctor Detroit.

The River City Ransom Shop generator was updated, too! Two new shops have been added: Good Burger, Daddy Green’s Pizza. New sprites include Ed (Good Burger), Lester Oakes (dissatisfied Good Burger customer), Daddy Green (the Last Dragon), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (they heard a new pizza place was available!), Paul (River City Ransom: Underground), Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers, Batsu and Hinata (Rival Schools).

Those new sprites have been added to the Mega Man NES and River City Ransom custom sprite galleries

That’s not all! X-Men: CotA portraits of Jubilee and Gambit (made from Jim Lee art) have been added to the X-Men:CotA and main image generators!

Also: the part of the GFX Generator where you enter text now has a border for each entry and description so you’ll know exactly what’s what. Well, in the generator, not life itself.

Also: I’ve got FOUR commission slots open! Check out the Illmosis.net commissions page for all the details on how you can get me to make a sprite or two for you!

Two new single image generators have been added: X-Men:Children of the Atom vs. screen and River City Ransom shops (newly added to the GFX Generator engine). Of course, there’s some new pixel art for you to have fun with in both of them!

Custom Sprites:
Marvel Comics: Phoenix/Jean Grey (MvC3 stance) and Mystique (Konami arcade stance)
River City Ransom: NES-style sprites of Provie, Bruno, Glen and Lilly (shop keeper) from River City Ransom: Underground, Ash Williams in S-Mart gear, the Merchant (RE4), and an improved Abobo (the old version was in the generator, but I didn’t like it enough to add it to the gallery).

Along with those sprites and the new generators, new CotA portraits made from art by Jim Lee and Alan Davis for Mystique, Jean Grey (redone), Phoenix, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Forge, Captain America and the Black Panther. The standalone CotA generator only has characters with all the necessary portraits and name graphics for the screen, but you can still use the one in the main image generator, even if the characters don’t have all the CotA goodies (though a few secretly have name graphics).

I’m kicking off this year with a couple of beat ’em up series that didn’t get much attention here last year, and that’s by accident.

Custom Sprites: Those two series now have their own galleries:
Rushing Beat: new scratch-made sprites of Rick Norton, Douglas Bild, Wendy Milan, Lord J, Dieter/Iceman and some drones from the first two Rushing Beat games start this gallery off on the good foot.
Crime Fighters: new scratch-made sprites of Blood and Boomer replace their old Capcom-based sprite edits, and so do new sprites of a Vendetta/Crime Fighters 2 thug.

All of that has been added to the main GFX Generator, along with a new (and more accurate) version of the X-Men Vs. Screen. There are now options to choose the stage display, including one that isn’t in CotA.

A generator just for that game will be added in an X-Men-centric update later this year.

As of last week (and I was told the day before our last day there), I don’t have a regular account for my day job (though I got some fill-in hours here and there), so I’m running a sale on prints in the shop until things get better. 8×10/8.5×11 prints are $5 and the 11 x 17 and 11 x 14 prints are only $8! That’s for the line art and pixel art prints, including the non game-related prints in the Illmosis shop (where you’ll find more prints).

That’s a big update, but it feels like it’s missing something… or someone. Maybe he’ll show up later…

edit: Guess who showed up to the update?

added to the Movie gallery and GFX Generator.

You know, I think you’ve been a really good group of girls and boys this year, so I think I’ll let you open your gifts early this time. No corduroy pants and hats this year, it’s all toys!

Toys and Cartoons: Teela, Beast Man, Panthro, Rom: Spaceknight, Megatron, Kimber Benton
G.I. JOE: Snake-Eyes (figure 1), Cobra Commander, Destro, Cobra Trooper
DC Comics: Supergirl, Martian Manhunter (the sprite seen in the JLA pixel art poster)
Marvel Comics: Doctor Doom (Secret Wars ’84 outfit)

All those sprites are also in the new, main GFX Generator, along with two new toy card tributes and a new MotU font:

As always, many of the sprites, especially the Cobra Trooper, have extra palettes in the GFX Generator that aren’t seen in the main custom sprite galleires. After all, there’s no such thing as having too many Cobra Troopers!

(edit)
Elsewhere…

Arcade Quartermaster is getting 2017 started early with a group of new shrines: Star Wars arcade (hey, Star Wars toys are also a favorite), Outfoxies, Narc and Outrun!

Thanks for the stopping by and I hope you have a good time, no matter which holidays you celebrate!
