This started as trying to work on Super Mario series "fighter-scale" sprites (a.k.a. something that'd fit in the first two Marvel vs. Capcom games) that looked more like the classic Yoichi Kotabe artwork. I've gotten back into the habit of trying to work on a design by drawing better front views and that naturally led to both Kotabe's art for SMB2 and that game's select screen sprites. That made me want to try and remake the whole screen and make it available in the ScrollBoss image generators. The version here is made straight from that generator. The background combines details from the NES, SNES All-Stars, and GBA Super Mario Advance versions of Super Mario Bros. 2. The lettering is based on the Super Mario Bros. game and the border around the 1P is a tribute to the lines around that earlier original Mario Bros logo. |
