parallax scrolling
The technique of moving (scrolling) multiple graphics layers at different speeds to create an illusion of depth. Close objects are scrolled more quickly than far objects. Very early examples of this technique appear in the arcade versions of IREM's Moon Patrol and Taito's Jungle Hunt/Jungle King.
