Another week, another update filled with more danger, terror and horror than hack-grade clickbait journalism! Better stay up late, because not only did cinema’s (and LJN’s) most notorious master of nightmares invade the site, but so did another bad creation from Wes Craven.

Custom Sprites – Along with a new design for the main Custom Sprites page, the following galleries were updated:
Capcom: Red Arremer King (Ghouls n’ Ghosts, based on the Red Arremer/Firebrand sprite I made a while back)
Final Fight: Belger (original and Final Fight Revenge zombie)
Sega: Slow Feet zombie (Altered Beast)
Movies: Freddy Krueger, Horace Pinker (Wes Craven’s Shocker, made in 1989)
Namco: Hell Chaos and Boreworms from Splatterhouse
Custom Portraits: FINALLY. I started with the SFA3-style portraits seen in the GFX Generators and I’ll add the others (mostly MSH-style) soon.

note: I know this was supposed to be a 1989 update, but these were sprites I meant to make last year and I had to make it up to any Splatterhouse fans I disappointed last year.

Mini-logos – Logos for A Nightmare on Elm Street and Shocker added to the Movies section.

GFX Generators – The new sprites and mini-logos were added to the generators, along with some LJN box styles to the Box tributes.

That’s all for this update! I need to take a breather and get ready for the final week of the DangerTerrorHorrorThon. Take care, have a good weekend, and try to fit some horror or monster movies in there!

The move has been (thankfully) delayed and I can post a modest 14th anniversary update!

Game Index – Dynamite Düx (arcade and SMS)

Custom Sprites – the following galleries were updated:
Capcom: Airman from Mega Man 2 added.
Final Fight: El Gado and Hollywood from Final Fight added.
Sega: Werewolf (fight stance) from Altered Beast, Bin and Pin from Dynamite Düx added, new scratch-made Tyris sprite added to Golden Axe.

Tips, Tricks & Codes – TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) added.

GFX Generators
– Capcom: new El Gado & Hollywood char (sharing one slot) added, Airman sprites added to “Robot Masters” char slot.
– Sega: Dynamite Düx added, Altered Beast char gets new Werewolf sprite.

Also, I’m now selling prints on Illmosis.net, and there are a few game-related pics (including Tyris Flare, Ms. Pac-Man, and Silent Hill’s nurse) in the mix. Check out that page here:

Illmosis.net Prints page

I’ve also started an Illmosis Facebook page, mostly because there are far too many people who’ll only hang out on Facebook. Until a worthy social site successor with better operating practices and less psy-ops experiments on their uses emerges, check out the Facebook page if you’re already a member of that site!
Illmosis Facebook page
The positive note here is interacting with other fansite friends and communities, so at least it’s not completely horrible!

Be sure to check out Jeremy Parish’s new site, Metroidvania.com, dedicated to games that use open paths instead of fixed levels. You know, games like the Pitfall series, the non-arcade Bionic Commando games, and (of course) the Metroid and map-based Castlevania games. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this site turns into as I’m a big fan of this game style.

The new edition of Rob “Dire” Strangman’s “Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman” is now available at http://www.memoirsofavirtualcaveman.net!

There’s a ton of new content, including contributions and interviews with David Crane (Pitfall!), Howard Scott Warshaw (Yars’ Revenge, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Yuzo Koshiro (soundtracks of Streets of Rage, the Revenge of Shinobi, Actraiser), Kouichi “Isuke” Yotsui (director of arcade Strider, Cannon Dancer/Osman), Sushi-X (EGM), Sam Roberts (The Light Sword Cypher Mainframe), Caitlin ‘Cipater’ Oliver (Splatterhouse hi-score record breaker) and so many others that my hands would be tired if I added them all. Just go to the site and see for yourself! BTW: I drew the cover, but don’t let that stop you from buying the book!

Due to the upcoming move to a different apartment (much like last year), this anniversary update is small because I needed time to pack. I’ll try to make up for that by having a few bigger updates in August and September, the 8th and 9th months of the year, to give some serious love to the Revenge of 1989 theme.

I’d like to thank everyone who has visited this site, contributed to it, or spread the word about it. This site is (usually) fun to work on, but it’s even more fun when other people can enjoy it, too. I’ll keep working to make it more fun for you and I hope you keep coming back. In fact, I hope something there convinces you to make game-related things of your own. Thank you and keep

Happy Halloween! This is the 25th anniversary year for both Altered Beast and Splatterhouse, this year’s monster/horror update will focus more on those two series.

GFX Generator update –
– New characters: Jennifer and Splatterhouse enemies (Master Dead and Pumpkin King) for Namco, Altered Beast enemies for Sega, Ptolemy for Taito, Sorceress (Dragon’s Crown) for Vanillaware (Other Games), Skeletor for Toons & Toys
– Updated characters: Neff (Rhino form)for Sega. All Darkstalker’s Revenge characters have their Select/Vs. portraits from that game.

Game Index – Splatterhouse (arcade) added.

Sprites – Night Slashers finally gets a gallery with a few sprites and animations.

Custom Sprites – Jennifer, Master Dead and Pumpkin King added to Namco page. Neff (Rhino) and Headless Horror added to Sega. Sorceress added to Vanillaware page. Ptolemy added to Taito. Skeletor added to Toys & Cartoons.

Fake Screenshot – Here’s one for the horror movie fans: Mike Haggar’s Halloween.

Of course, other game fan sites are celebrating Halloween, too. Here’s a few other places you should check out:

VGJunk
has a fresh page all about Splatterhouse 2 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
Games-in-Bits has an excellent feature on some creepy urban legends in video games, including the first video game character to kill actual people.
Arcade Quartermaster also added a Splatterhouse shrine along with one for House of the Dead! It’s a creature double feature of foreboding abodes, so check it out!

Currently busy with many things, including cooking up a few things for future themed updates for this site (and I’ll dedicate a whole post to that soon). I just wanted to make another update so you know that the site is still kicking.

Game Index – Adjustments were made to many entries and the engine itself, including one to the screenshot area. The main index page now lets you check out games according to genre. There are almost 100 games in there right now, so that took a while. Most of the games have at least one screenshot now.

games added: Altered Beast (arcade), Quartet (arcade), Rolling Thunder (arcade)

Sprites – More sprites were added to the following galleries: Superman (arcade), Vigilante (arcade).

GFX Generators – a recreation of the Metroid NES title screen has been added to those variable background screenstyles in the Vs. Maker and GroupShot generators.

Capcom: Avengers/Avenger Ryu & Ko (full ending pose).
Namco: Wonder Momo (Momo sprite)

All new custom sprites were added to their Custom Sprite galleries as well.

Before I go, here’s a minor extra thing to show off. I was testing out an idea I had and posted a .GIF of the result on Tumblr, but had to trim it down because the full version kept getting an upload error. Here’s the whole thing:

… Halloween… Halloween…

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Konami’s Castlevania hitting U.S. shores and invading unsuspecting NES systems around the country. With that in mind, this pre-Halloween update is really heavy with Dracula’s minions along with a Belmont to destroy them. Non-Castlevania fans still have some things to look forward to as other horror and monster-related sprites and things haunt this update.

GFX Generators – The following creatures and creature-fighters have been added to the mix:
Capcom: Anita (new!)
Jaleco: Avenging Spirit (new!)
Konami: Richter Belmont (new!), Medusa Head (new!), Castlevania creatures (Ghosts, Hunchback, Zombie)
Namco: Rick Taylor (now with palettes, including Mirror Rick and Wanpaku Graffiti), Biggy Man (new!)
Sega: Neff (new!)
An expanded version of my scratch-made Castlevania cover art recreation was added to the 384×224 Create-a-Scene screenstyles. You probably figured that out from the main screenshot, though. More Darkstalker backgrounds were added to those, too.

Custom Sprites –
Jaleco: Avenging Spirit
Konami: Richter Belmont (SotN style), Medusa Head, Ghosts, Hunchback, Zombie
Namco: Biggy Man
Sega: Neff (Altered Beast)

Mini-Logos – Capcom: Resident Evil. Data East: Night Slashers. Jaleco: Avenging Spirit. Konami: Richter (Belmont). Marvel: Ghost Rider

Expect a few more items to be added on Halloween day!
